Ah, yes, the livejournal. I’ve been a little absent from the livejournal for a little bit, but a lot was going on…
My 21st birthday was Tuesday, went out with Matt, legally drank (woohoo) and had a great time. Heather was unfortunately sick and could not make it though she wanted to. :(
But we were still good.
I think.
Yeah, we definitely were.
Anyway, now it’s on to finishing that pesky degree with an assortment of electives! Fun!

It appears that in Great Britain, there is a new guideline that entails requiring partially blind people to wait until they are fully blind in at least one eye before they get treatment. I mean, that’s just how awesome socialized medicine is, right?
Right?

At least I’m not this guy, an older gentleman who was SHOT by the POLICE carrying a TABLE LEG that the police thought was a gun. He was KILLED because he couldn’t raise his arms because of cancer treatments.
Pretty sad.

So today, I go out to my car to head over to the DMV to go renew my tag (gotta do it before next Tuesday).
I notice that my car door is unlocked “That’s odd…”, my inner monologue says, trailing off as I notice with growing anger what happened
As I open the door I realize that my faceplate is off of the stereo. I think to myself “Hmm, I usually only do that if I park somewhere other than my apartment, and only then if it’s for any reasonable amount of time.”
Anyway, upon further examination, I noticed a huge indentation to the left of my cd head unit in the dash that had pretty much ruined the CD player. It appears someone attempted to use some sort of crowbar to wedge out the head unit, but since I bolted it in so well, they couldn’t get it… (OF course it had to be ruined anyway… it’s just as well)
Realization flushing my face that there are other things of value in my car, I scramble around to the other doors to get a better look at things. (In case you didn’t know, I keep a fairly messy vehicle.) I notice, quickly, that my new MP3 player is missing out of my center console (a portable player that I just spent $200 on about 2 months ago)
I find that my subwoofers and their enclosure are indeed also missing.
I’ve been robbed.
At this point I am not too upset because I am blessed with good auto insurance, I think to myself, and it will cover items stolen from my car.
Police come. File report. Ironically, it’s the same dude who wrote me a (well-deserved) following too closely ticket a few months ago.
I call the insurance company. I give them the info. Blah, blah, what’s missing, blah, what is the value of those items, blah. I find out the items are covered. “Great,” I say, woo hoo, etc. We’re saved, captain.
“I see here you have a $1000 deductible, Mr. Vonk.
Since your loss was just under that amount, there’s unfortunately no coverage on our part. Have a good day.”
*sigh*
So there it is. I really wish I had done something wrong in this whole matter, like leave my keys in the car with all the doors unlocked, because then I could at least be mad at myself for it. But I’m not. I didn’t do anything. Or maybe if I had lived in an apartment complex with no on-site security. But I do.
One of life’s little curve balls, the responsible voices in my head tell me. One of life’s little lessons. I just want my stuff back. Screw metaphors.

Summer is fine; I keep thinking about how summer will be much different when it comes time to sit down and be a responsible adult. For now, a part-time job and classes are all I need. It’s the heat I don’t need. So many people like heat and I can’t stand it! I don’t understand all you people. Maybe we just need to stratify the country into gradients of people, all living in the temperate zone that interests them the most.
I mean, it would be expensive, but I think it would be worth it. I’d probably live somewhere moderately chilly, because I really like cold weather, much better than hot weather. I really dislike South Florida in the summer–let me rephrase that– I dislike the weather in South Florida in the summer. You walk outside at midnight and it’s like 85 damn degrees!!! I don’t understand. And the humidity!
Whine, whine, whine. Who cares.
The good news is that I turn 21 soon. That will be fun.

Well, there’s definitely some good news today. The credit for the course I took that I was denied for so long is finally going to count for me!!! Now I am only taking 14 hours this summer instead of 17, like I thought!
So, now I am back in class, but right now all I am taking is a Computer Programming class. Java seems like it will be ok, though.

Today, we got up and had breakfast at a diner that I thought was gonna be pretty good but was not that great. Then, we waited about an hour and went to the Empire State Building. Heather of course came too.
Then, we visited the financial district and Battery Park and looked out at the Statue of Liberty.
Next, it was off to Rockefeller Center for some shopping.
After that, it was dinner in Times Square and we went to see The Producers on Broadway. The musical was AWESOME. It was very funny and probably the best show I’ve seen.
Tomorrow we will relax and take it easy before our flight back.

Well, here we are. New York City. Heather and I are having a great time!
We got up and ate at the world’s most expensive McDonald’s, Times Square.
Times Square, of course, still looks great.
Then we just sort of wandered the streets. Took the subway to Central Park.
Then we headed over to 5th avenue and shopping and then tried for an hour to find the Empire State Building. Once we found it, the line was too long considering that we needed to pick up our Yankees tickets for the game vs. the Giants soon enough.
At any rate, it is off to get some rest before we hit the streets tomorrow! Maybe I’ll post again then.
