Rain

Dreary weather is still cool. I remember walking out to the school bus in middle school the 1/5 mile down our cul-de-sac and truly enjoying the misty, brisk air. It’s a lot less humid, even if there’s fog or mist, and the cool air makes you more alert somehow. Not *as* much fun to drive in, mind you, which I guess is why the weather came with a memory from before I could drive.

Birthday

It’s nowhere near my birthday…But here goes.

June 25, 1981:
* Superman II earns $24 million in its first week of theatrical release,
smashing the movie industry’s single week record.
* The U.S. Supreme Court upholds the constitutionality of having only
males register for a potential military draft.

A Princess of Bavaria shares my birth date.
I’ll bet she has no idea…

The Microsoft company incorporated on my date of birth.

Apparently some apparition of the virgin mary has appeared, dating all the way back to the day I was born.

If more interesting things happened to me, I would have more to say. As such, I have absolutely no reason to be typing this journal entry.

Excellent Read

‘So: Is Iraq a brutal totalitarian regime? Check! Is it a proven threat to its neighbors? Check! Is it a proven threat to its own people? Check! Is it a proven threat to our allies? Check! Is it willing to export terrorism abroad? Check! Is it likely that if it got weapons of mass destruction, it would use them recklessly? Check! Is it working very hard to get weapons of mass destruction? Check! Would Saddam’s people be better off without him? Check! Would we and our allies be better off without him? Check! Do we have the power and capabilities to get rid of him without paying too high a cost? Check! And, would getting rid of him make it less likely that another September 11 would “happen again”? Check. ‘

This comes from an excellent two-part piece, Same Old Tiresome Arguments of War (and here’s Part 2)

Another good part: ‘War is not the best means to get at Iraq’s oil. If all we wanted was a bigger slice of the Iraqi petro-pie, all we’d have to do, literally, is say so. Dick Cheney could negotiate that with Saddam over Turkish coffee and a few tortured lackeys tomorrow. Saddam has made it known that he’d be perfectly willing to sell a lot more oil to the United States, and that he’d certainly write up some fresh contracts if the U.S. would drop its sanctions and forget about this “regime change” nonsense. ‘

I couldn’t agree more. If I weren’t so busy with schoolwork, I’d make a few points myself…

UGA

It is pretty cool that we’re now 6-0 and are solid favorites in the next two games (Vanderbilt and Kentucky). It will be exciting to see and hopefully we’ll be 8-0 going into Florida.
That should also be an interesting game.

Gay Jeans Day

Saw a sign walking into Sanford today to take my Network Tech. final exam that said
“Gay Jeans Day
Wednesday, October 9th, 2002 is Gay Jeans Day. Wear jeans today to show your support for gays and lesbians everywhere.”
Thought that was kinda funny.

New Job

I am at my new job, computer lab monitor at the Student Athletic Center. I provide computer assistance to the athletes using the lab. Right now, nobody knows me so it’s kind of slow. I guess that’s a good thing. Next week we will move to the HUGE new building by the Coliseum on campus. Apparently, instead of 20 computers, there will be 60, and everyone will have a computer.

Calendar Link

I have posted a semi-accurate calendar of what’s going on with me. There’s a permanent link on the left side of your screen (Garrett’s Calendar of Events) so just click there and pretend you care!
