I realized this afternoon that I haven’t had coffee in a while. It’s weird, because ever since the beginning of college, I have been a fairly regular drinker of the stuff. It’s good, and I would in fact like to try to say that I love coffee without sounding too much like Ricky Martin. I juss LOFF coffee. Iss juss fabolos…

Damn. Oh well, I tried.
I am at work, just closing out a switch-shift for Trevor, who normally works before me on Thursdays but today will work after me. I actually got a pretty good deal. Instead of working 7-10:30 like usual, I just have to work 5-7. 5-7 is nothing. 5-7 how long it takes some people in Atlanta to get home from their jobs. Granted, I will make less than I spent on dinner for two at Wild Wing this weekend tonight, but sometimes a tradeoff is worth it.

What do Koreans call the Korean War?
Just curious.

Wednesday night:
Our last night in Ft. Lauderdale… Huong, Mary, Rasim, and I went a few blocks down from the hotel to the “bar district” areas slightly north of our Doubletree. We ended up at the Fat Tuesday on the third floor, a pounding, shaking, sweaty place whose only redeeming quality was the row of a dozen frozen drink dispensers occupying an entire wall of the bar. It was loud, it was hot and sticky, but at least you could sip a cold Pina Colada, albeit a $7 investment, that would guarantee you a slightly cooler countenance.

Here’s Rasim and Mary at Fat Tuesday living it up. Don’t they look happy?

In fact, as Wednesday night marked the end of President Bush’s deadline for Saddam to leave Iraq, it was slightly surreal and definitely interesting to watch CNN on one tv, Fox News on another, drinking my cool drink from the relatively safe confines of the bar. Then the DJ played “Bombs over Baghdad”, compounding the surrealism with another layer. I believe I went back to the hotel alone, seeing as how Huong had already departed, Clay had left seeking cooler grounds, and Mary and Rasim were surely finding solace in each other’s presence and in their isolation while enjoying a quiet walk on the beach.

Thursday:
Nine o’clock came early for some, but I had been up approximately 22 minutes at that point and was showered and dressed. Once in about every two weeks, I wake up randomly at some awfully early hour completely ready to go. Thursday was randomly selected to be one of those mornings. I went to bed at 4 or 5 and magically awoke at 8 and got out of bed at 8:38. What else can I say about the rest of the day… We drove.
We drove all day.
We drove to Gainesville and then we drove to Pensacola. All on Thursday.
By the way, Thursday is the day the pictures end in my album. I really wanted to take pictures in Pensacola or on Pensacola Beach, but that didnt happen.
Thursday night, Clay took us to an old hangout of his in downtown Pensacola, the Seville Quarter. Nice place, lots of action… We got in around 3 or 4 I believe after several trips to the Whataburger.

Friday:
Friday was the day that I completely burned myself beyond recognition. I didn’t realize that in the morning, when I sprayed only a tiny amount of sunscreen on in a halfhearted attempt to get a little tanner, I was sealing my fate for the next 3 or 4 days at least.
At this point, I will pause the story and continue it later.
This is mainly because my shift is over and I would like to get something to eat.
If it were one of those books on tape when you were a kid, I would say “Turn the page when you hear the chimes ring.”
*Rrrring!*

It definitely feels good to find something for someone. Working here in the lab, a lot of people lose stuff on their disks. It’s a hard lesson to learn that floppy disks are absolutely HORRIBLE. Especially nowadays, everyone would do well to learn the lesson that you should save a file at least one other place besides a floppy disk. Save it to the hard drive of the computer you are using. Even at damn Kinko’s you should save files locally. The reason? Your disk, disc, or diskette will fail. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but it will. And you will be sad. And if you had just saved it on the hard drive of that computer, or brought another floppy, or put your zip disk in, or whatever, you would be saved.
And being saved is a good feeling.
I just helped a certain student-athlete save his essay. I mean, he didn’t even thank me, but that was a given in this place. I suppose my thanks come entirely in the form of ten dollars every hour.
When you spend 20 minutes trying to recover a file, it sure is a relief to do it.
Anyway, now I went down to my car for 5 minutes and charged the Ipod up a little. That way, I can now listen to “Meanwhile, Rick James” and enjoy another lazy night at the computer.

So, it’s kind of interesting. I am totally back from the Spring Break, but there’s several paragraphs sitting at home on the desktop waiting for me to update how the second half of our week went.
I will post those paragraphs whenever I finish them.

I have decided that the “low battery” icon on the ipod is about the saddest thing one can see at 8:45 while still at work with 1.75 hours left to go. I really needed to listen to my multiple playlists between now and 10:30, but oh well.
Instead, I can browse the web in silence, wishing I could be listening to music.

Well, it’s Wednesday and the vacation has been great so far. We’re on our last night at the hotel in Ft. Lauderdale and tomorrow, we take the long drive up to Pensacola. Last night, we hit South Beach for the evening and enjoyed good food and good music. Today, it’s a lazy day on the beach and more fun in Ft. Lauderdale tonight.

Here’s some photos from the trip so far!

Well, in 6 hours, we’ve learned a whole lot about the City of Savannah, including their taxi laws and the open container laws. Sadly, my digital camera will not reach me until tomorrow, so you cannot see what is going on.

7:30 am comes really early when you’ve been up til 4:30… Now I’m at a meeting, woohoo.
I just am not able to handle staying up like I used to. I can’t believe that in high school I would stay up til 1 and get up at 6:30.
Now I’m just tired all day.

There’s my spring break schedule posted right below this entry. It’s not completely fleshed out and it’s horrible HTML tables, but it’s all I’ve got right now. Of course, I will have my cell phone the whole break and will probably be in contact with everyone I care about, so there’s no surprise here anyway.
