This is week 1 of our 3-week summer vacation. Heather and I are having a blast in sunny Destin, Florida, at the beach house here in Sandestin. I haven’t taken as many pictures as I’d like to, but maybe more will come.

Here’s a shot of Heather and me under the blazing sun on the beach.

It’s been a while

Ok, ok, ok. The two regular readers of my journal may have noticed that I have been noticably absent from speaking my mind in the last few weeks. There’s always a reason, always an excuse, and mine’s the same as anyone’s: I’ve been swamped. Between putting in 40-60 hours a week programming, 15 hours at my job, 16 hours at school, and about 2 hours of sleeping, I have forgone the frivolities (showering, writing in the livejournal, eating from all the food groups) in favor of more primitive (and effective) methods. Now, a mere 48 hours from being completely done, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and at least make a late-night post here.

I’ve opened my LiveJournal window dozens of times during the project, and you know what happened? Absolutely nothing. I sat there, my mind racing with the preoccupations of a sleep-starved caffeine-inhaling student, and could not string together enough thoughts to provoke the requisite keystrokes. This is not to say that nothing was going on; obviously, it was a veritable madhouse over at the various buildings on campus our team has haunted nocturnally over the last month or two. I just couldn’t think.

Now, things are slightly better and, as I said, I am near the end. I have some code to spec and comment and I have a paper to fabricate tomorrow from thin air. Both are within the realm of “that which I can do”, which makes me more excited than some of the things I’ve had to tackle lately. After that, it’s on to vacation time.

This vacation could not have come at a better time.
I’ll write more about it later.
