Lost

I started Season One of Lost last night. Having abandoned Survivor this season, and being desperate for something widescreen to enjoy on the tv, I acquired the whole season and am prepared to hunker down and watch it all pretty quickly, so that we can start watching Season 2 in HD.

I watched the first two hours, which is technically just the 2-hour pilot, though each part has a separate episode number and credits. I know I’m technically the last person on earth to get into this show, but it definitely seems very well done so far. Good characters, loads of mystery and suspense, great-looking special effects and even some enigmatic symbolism really work together to draw you in.

When we watched the first 3 seasons of 24 on DVD, it took us about a month, which is an insane pace for 72 episodes of anything, even something that moves as quickly as that show did. I don’t know if I’ll be able to go as fast with Lost, especially with college football and November sweeps coming up, but I’m definitely interested in getting through it quickly enough to enjoy the current season ASAP.

I’d ask all kinds of questions about polar bears and transceivers and Korean subtitles, but I guess I’ll figure those things out soon enough.

Added note: The TV show recaps at Television Without Pity are hilarious.

Dammit, Garrett. I want to get rid of my Lost season 1 DVD set since we’ve watched them all and I don’t see any reason why we’ll ever want to view them again. I wish I had known you were interested; I would have sold you my only-viewed-once set for a mutually agreeable price.

Glad you are getting into it!!! I did the same with Alias, when james and I first started watching it, we did the whole first season in like 2 sittings. That show is awesome. Season 2 and three didn’t take long either. Glad you are enjoying lost!

Tori: you should get Netflix!!! Then you won’t have to buy them (it is the ONLY thing keeping me from buying season 4 of Alias)…

Duane–ha! Ironically, my fiance had Netflix for a long time, but rarely used it for the last 6 months or so that he had it. I don’t have much of an attention span for movies on weeknights… and he has generally HORRIBLE taste in movies (or at least we rarely find a film we both enjoy). I finally convinced him to cancel it, but I’d forgotten Netflix carries TV shows on DVD, too. You make a good point–maybe we’ll resurrect our membership…

By the way, do you really like Alias? I tried it out, but it never hooked my interest. I LOVE Lost… all I can figure is JJ Abrams’ shows are hit or miss for me.

…you’re not technically the last person to get in on Lost, but Alias is very good.

Haha, I love how everyone assumes I got the DVDs. There are other ways to watch TV shows, and I have very little moral problem with “obtaining” something that’s broadcast for free over the airwaves anyway…

You’re not the last person on earth to get into the show; I have never watched it. This is mainly because it comes on Wednesday nights, when I am usually otherwise engaged. If I ever get a Tivo, maybe that situation will be remedied.

Tori, I don’t really like Lost that much, maybe because it is such a departure from JJ’s style of show… But it is a “good” show, it is just wearing thin on my nerves. Every once and while, I DO need SOME information, rather than the constant back and forth they are currently serving us. I honestly believe they have no idea where they are going with it. But that is just me… At least I have my Alias.

And Garrett… Download away… I would like some advice about a good way to get some stuff, myself!!
